I am so very sorry you are dealing with s...oh, Amy. I am so very sorry you are dealing with such close-minded individuals. As far as I've always believed it is most important for our children with Ds, and actually all children to learn the skills only inclusion can teach them -- how to function as comfortably and smoothly as they can in our diverse world. This means the academics come second to learning how to be part of a group working on a common goal, learning how to play and grow together, and understanding the value of and contributions possible from ALL people. I think it is wonderful that you are pushing so hard for your son to be in a placement where all of these are possible for him AND his peers. I know there are some times for some people when inclusion isn't the best placement, but in general (and in his and my son's cases at this time) I believe it is as you do.

Also, please tell your son I consider him a great role model for my son as he has shown he is learning to advocate for himself. Thanks. :)Karenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09949393577912003304noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-141914567033812953.post-74096290663841208272014-05-12T10:12:25.339-07:002014-05-12T10:12:25.339-07:00Thanks, Lisa. You're right - it shouldn't be this fucking hard. It shouldn't. And you are an incredible advocate, but it matters so little when your words fall on closed minds.

I am sending you every positive thought and vibe I can muster.Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07604477175816651214noreply@blogger.com
